Where families need additional support they sometimes agree to use a child contact centre. This could be because the child and parent have not seen each other for a long time or because trust has broken down.
The National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC) ensures that their registered Contact Centres are safe and welcoming for families. This includes ensuring staff members are trained and DBC checked, and that the environment is safe.
For this reason, Family Mediation North East will only recommend NACCC registered contact centres. Where parents agree to use a contact centre, we will refer you to the most convenient centre, please see the links below, or you can do this yourself using the NACCC link.
Children North East offer supervised/supported contact in central Newcastle Monday to Friday 08:00am - 6:00pm, and High Heaton on Saturday 09:00 - 5:00pm.
Supervised contact is £60 per hour, this also includes a court report and the staff members make observation notes that both parties are entitled to view after the session.
Supported contact is available with flexibility. It can be a handover + support room – where a member of staff manages the handover and they stay in a contact room. This is £36 per hour. Support Room, where the parents manage the handover themselves and book a room. This is £24 per hour. Or handover only which is £12 for 2 hours of contact.
If parents wish to proceed with this service, please email the completed referral form back to Susan Forster or Kim Dryden. Once the referral form has been received and discussed at the weekly referral meeting, a member of staff will contact the parents to make the necessary arrangements. The turn around for allocation can be immediate if requested and there is sufficient availability.
Parents can also both come for an initial visit separately, to look around and become familiar with the office and there is no cost for this.
